A data collection method defines how the LogicMonitor Collector retrieves monitoring data from a resource. The following are the different types of data collection methods:

  • BatchScript Data Collection Method—Ideal for DataSources that collect data from multiple instances or resources that do not support per-instance queries. For more information, see BatchScript Data Collection.
  • ESX Data Collection Method—Enables you to query data using the VMware API. For more information, see ESX Data Collection Method.
  • JDBC Data Collection Method—Enables you to create datasources that query databases, collect and store data from a SQL query, alert on them, and graph them.
  • JMX Data Collection Method—Ideal for collecting data from Java applications using exposed MBeans.
  • NetApp API Data Collection Method—Enables NetApp data collection through Performance Data, Request XML, and API call.
  • Scripted Data Collection Method—Ideal for cases in which you may need to use the script mechanism to retrieve performance metrics from hard-to-reach places. For more information, see Scripted Data Collection Method.
  • SNMP Data Collection Method—Ideal for monitoring network devices that expose metrics through SNMP, including multi-instance hardware. For more information, see SNMP Data Collection.
  • Webpage (HTTP or HTTPS) Data Collection Method—Ideal for querying data from any system through HTTP or HTTPS.
