MongoDB Atlas Project Integration
Last updated on 22 November, 2024MongoDB Atlas is a database cluster service with options for AWS, GCP, and Azure. LogicMonitor can be integrated with MongoDB Atlas through the MongoDB and LM portals for all three of the cloud providers. This enables you to achieve visibility into your MongoDB Atlas managed clusters, alongside the rest of your LogicMonitor environment.
MongoDB Atlas Resource Monitoring
Monitoring can be accessed through the LM Resource Tree selections or configured for the dashboard. Each MongoDB Atlas cluster typically consists of three shards, or nodes, and they are indexed as 0, 1, and 2. These clusters are elastic, allowing for the addition of more shards as workload demands increase. Each shard provides monitoring statistics across four main areas: Database Config (overall cluster), Database Local (individual shard or node), Disk, and Process. The Database categories pertain specifically to MongoDB, while the Disk and Process categories relate to the server. Each area includes several tabs, such as Info, Alerts, SDT, Graphs, and Raw Data.
When hovering over the graph lines, a key displaying the graph’s data appears. The Process graph includes approximately twenty-eight monitoring factors, such as ProcessCPUUser and SystemCPUUser.
Requirements for MongoDB Atlas Project Intergration
To integrate your project with MongoDB Atlas and monitor it in LogicMonitor, ensure the following:
- Create and configure a MongoDB Account. For more information, see Getting Started with Atlas from MongoDB’s documentation.
- User permissions to a MongoDB Atlas project and project API key. For more information, see Create an API Key for a Project from MongoDB’s documentation.
- A paid tier MongoDB Atlas database cluster must be running in the appropriate project to view metrics in your LogicMonitor Portal.
Note: MongoDB Atlas Free Tier does not offer metrics. While the integration steps for LogicMonitor and MongoDB Atlas Free Tier can be completed, no data is visible in the Dashboard or associated monitoring pages.
Adding the MongoDB Atlas Project to your LM Portal
- Navigate to Resources.
- Select
Add > Cloud and SaaS.
- Navigate to MongoDB and select Add.
- Enter a Name and optionally enter a Description.
- Select Next: Permissions.
- Enter the MongoDB Atlas Project API key pair.
- Select Test Permissions.
Note: Wait for the Success banner to display. - Select Add Service.
The MongoDB Atlas project is now added to the LM Portal for monitoring. If the Atlas cluster is within the Atlas project, each cluster node is monitored individually. MongoDB Atlas creates three cluster nodes by default.
