Service Templates allow you to create and manage multiple services easily. You can select and group services based on property keys (cardinality), visualize the created services and their members and define the desired service hierarchy. This streamlined approach simplifies service management and organization.
Requirements for Adding Multiple Services Using Templates
You require administrator access to create service templates.
Adding Multiple Services Using Templates
1. In LogicMonitor, navigate to Services. to Services.
2. Select and select Multiple services, via a new rule.
3. At the Add multiple services from new template: Members step of the wizard, do the following:
a. In the Name field, enter a name for the service template.
b. (Optional) In the Description field, enter a description for the widget to reference later in the service template.
c. In the Default Service Criticality field, select the criticality level for the services, such as lowest, low, medium, high, or highest.
These values help to prioritize your services, highlighting those that require immediate attention. You can adjust the criticality level for individual services as needed.
d. In the Members properties field, select + and choose properties to select resources.
Note: Properties cannot be modified after template creation.
e. In the Filter resources and instances, add filters for resources and instances for specific services.
Note: Filters cannot be modified after template creation.
Example: Resource Filtering with Service Templates
Consider two properties assigned to all resources: service.name
and location
.
In addition, assume there are two values for service.name
: “BW Store” and “Web Portal.” The location
property might have five values: “America,” “Los Angeles,” “Goa,” “Australia”, and “New York”. Using the Filter resources and instances field, you can filter “Web Portal” resources and select the desired locations. This creates a new template with five services – one “Web Portal” service for each chosen location.
f. In the Service naming pattern, you can alter the text to change and view how service names are generated.
You can view the preview of the Service name in the Preview field.
g. In the Services preview section, you can view the following information:
– Service Name —Displays the name of the services created.
Note: You must first select the member properties to see which properties will be added.
– Resources – Displays the number of resources associated with each service.
Note: Selecting the number in the Resources column will display the resource names.
– Service Criticality: Displays the criticality level for the services and provides the option to customize the service individually.
h. In the Default Membership Re-evaluation Interval field, select the interval time to set the frequency of the environment changes.
4. In the Adding Services to Service Groups and Adding Properties section, add the following information:
a. Enable Create service groups for these services, and put new services in them by matching properties to automatically create service groups to sort the newly created services.
Note: Settings cannot be modified after template creation.
b. (Optional) In the Parent service group field, specify the parent service group to organize your services hierarchically.
c. In the Service group naming pattern field, you can create a hierarchy by selecting Insert Token to include properties for the selected resources.
Note: The tokens in the path are replaced with their actual values. The forward slash (/) denotes folder hierarchy.
d. Select Preview, to view the if the service group was created as required.
e. In Other service groups to add these services to field, add other service groups.
f. Select Add Record, to add the additional services.
Note: You can add custom properties to the new properties list. This is useful when applying services to existing LogicModules.
5. Select Next:Save template and add Metrics to save the template.
