v.96 Release: Even More Dashboard Improvements and Expanded Cloud Monitoring

Last updated on 14 September, 2022

The v.96 Release will be rolled out through the beginning of November. You can expect a ton of major improvements across both Dashboards and Cloud Monitoring!

Cloud Monitoring

Following our release of LM Cloud, we are continuing to expand the breadth of our cloud monitoring capabilities to include support for:

  • AWS’s Network Load Balancer (NLB) service.
  • AWS Workspaces.
  • Azure’s Analysis Services.

*Please note these resources will be made available by end of day, Oct. 26th

Additionally, you will notice the following improvements:

  • We have added Poll Now support for all data collection performed by a LogicMonitor-maintained Collector, including collection for AWS & Azure service limits, AWS EC2 reserved instances, AWS EC2 scheduled events, AWS ECS service & task details, and Azure VM status.
  • We improved our AWS EC2 Reserved instances monitoring to include monitoring for region based offers, in addition to the availability zone (az) based offers we monitored before.
  • The custom EC2 / VM discovery frequency option is now independent of the option to enable monitoring via a local Collector. This means you can choose for EC2 instances and VMs to be discovered as frequently as every 10 minutes, regardless of whether you’ve enabled monitoring via a local Collector (which was previously a requirement).

Dashboard Group Cloning and Tokens

Dashboard Groups now support both tokens and cloning!

Cloning at the Group level will enable you to replicate a current set of Dashboards, expediting the process of en masse Dashboard creation.

Additionally, implementing Tokens at the Group level complements the cloning feature by enabling you to create dynamic fields across multiple Dashboards that will populate with a designated set of data. Tokens set at the Group level will be automatically inherited by each Dashboard within that group and displayed in each Dashboard’s token table with “(inherited)” appended. These tokens can be overridden by setting a different value at a more granular level.

Other Improvements

Dashboards

  • We have added a new type of datapoint to the Big Number and Pie Chart widgets for Device Count. This datapoint will return the number of devices that match any AppliesTo expression.
  • Alert filters are now available for the Map Widget. Much like the NOC widget, you can now filter which alert severities should be displayed.
  • When testing an Applies To function, we will display an error message if the expression is invalid.
  • The Service Status widget now supports tokens when configuring Overall Status.
  • When pins overlap on the Map Widget, higher severity alerts will now display in front of lower severity pins.
  • We will show an error when attempting to save an invalid time range (i.e. both start and end time are in the future, start time is later than end time)
  • We will now pre-load widget data out of view so that dashboards can render faster when scrolling.
  • We have enabled widget tokens for all dashboards and removed the ‘Enable widget tokens’ checkbox. If you want tokens “disabled” for a dashboard, simply do not define any.

Devices

  • Improved drag and drop tooltips to clarify when a device will be copied to a group (i.e. if you drag a device from a dynamic group) vs when a device will be moved to a group (i.e. if you drag a device from a regular group).
  • Added a new property system.deviceGroupId to device groups, which is inherited by member devices. You may find this useful for quickly determining a device’s associated group id(s) to use with LogicMonitor’s REST API.

Integrations

  • We have updated our ServiceNow integration to be more customizable.
  • Updated descriptions for various alert types within HipChat Connect have been updated to better display important data on the notification card.
  • Simplified Installation dialog for HipChat Connect configuration within the HipChat product.

LogicModules

  • Changed default to use ‘Embedded groovy script’ when creating a new script based DataSource.
  • Added the ‘focus’ button to PropertySource, EventSource, and JobMonitor.
  • ConfigSource can now use a groovy script to check a config which allows advanced RegEx and any other logic that scripting offers.

Reports

  • We have added Service Checks to our SLA Report. You can get availability percentage for Service checks across your environment along with a Summary availability percentage.
  • Website Overview Report now allows you to exclude SDT and services that were available 100% of the time.
  • You can now exclude SDT and services with 100% availability in the Website Overview Report.

REST API (version 1.5.5)

  • 401 response is now returned for requests without an authentication header, per this resource.
  • Published recipient groups and report groups resources.

Bugs Fixed

  • HipChat environments with over 100 rooms were not able to properly search a room name.
  • Collector log download was prevented via the UI in Safari.
  • When including a Token in an alert message for sensitive data tokens (e.g. .pass, .key, etc.) those tokens are now obfuscated from emailed alert messages.
  • The SDT button did not display for cleared alerts in HipChat Connect.
  • When switching rooms, HipChat would display a 404 error.
  • The color contrast  did not render properly when selecting a property in the Devices | Info tab on a windows device.
  • The tooltip on alerts (displaying severity) didn’t appear if you changed the alert filter.
  • The !cloudtlist debug command wasn’t working properly for AWS data collection tasks.
  • Character escaping was not functioning properly when using glob in Dashboard Widgets
  • The datapoints query parameter for the data resource wasn’t working properly.
  • The !cloudtlist debug command wasn’t working properly for AWS data collection tasks.
