NetScans Overview

NetScans periodically checks for LogicMonitor Collectors and automatically discovers resources in your network. In addition, NetScans streamline the process of adding resources to your LogicMonitor account and ensures that your environment is properly monitored.

When a resource is discovered, you can specify criteria that determine whether the resource will be added to monitoring. In addition, you can set the display name based on one of the following:

• Reverse DNS (as resolved by your reverse DNS)
• System name (from SNMP devices if you have it set in the sysName OID)
• IP address

NetScan can use three methods for discovering devices:

• The ICMP Discovery 
• Script or CSV Discovery
• Enhanced NetScan Script 

You can create and manage NetScans from Settings > NetScan. There are two ways of creating NetScans:

• Basic NetScans
• Advanced NetScans
